KTM Enduro Factory Riders up front in E1 and E3 at ISDE in Portugal
It was a very good day for KTM’s Eero Remes in the E1 class. The Finn continued to se the pace, winning the day and taking control of the lead in the progressive results to bolster his national team’s chances in the World competition. He was followed home both on the day and overall in the rankings by factory teammate Simone Albergoni of Italy. Factory teammate Alessandro Belometti improved his position in the E2 class, finishing fifth on Day 2 to move into fourth place in the progressive rankings, while remarking that six days of competition was long and hard and anything can happen before the race is finished. KTM’s 2009 E2 World Champion Johnny Aubert of France is unable to race in this year’s ISDE.
KTM factory riders are also at the forefront of the E3 class with Samuli Aro (right) first on Day 2 and with a hold on the progressive rankings to add support in the World Trophy. Meanwhile Kurt Caselli of KTM USA is up with the top riders lying fourth in Day 2 and overall, while KTM-supported rider Marcus Kehr of Germany and Alessandro Botturi of Italy are sixth and seventh in the overall results after Day 2. Meanwhile club riders are also able to test their skills alongside the world elite and the new KTM Toughest Club Rider Award is being hotly contested. From the national perspective, France led Finland, Italy, Sweden and Australia in the team rankings.
In another grueling ride, the 420 riders still on the start list after day one tackled more sand and ate more dust as they pitted themselves against the competition and the Portuguese terrain but at least they did it under clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid 20’s. The sandy conditions were tough for the machines but KTM riders across the board, from the Enduro Factory Team right down to club riders managed conditions well, many being practically assisted by the efficient KTM Race Service Team.
Day three takes riders inland but they will still have passages of sand to challenge them in the pivotal middle day of this true test of endurance.
